Setting Up Parental Controls

These days you can never be too careful when it comes to what your children are seeing when they hop on the Internet. While parents want to keep a watchful eye over their kids’ Internet activity, they also know that the world is different than it once was and kids have far more exposure to the Internet than ever before. If as a parent you are interested in keeping your children safe and out of harm’s way then there is a lot that you can do to increase your children’s safety online and their exposure to harmful, adult material.

The first thing that you should do is create a new user account for your kids on your Windows system. The reason for this is any controls or protections you set up would be in effect as you logged in as well so having a separate account will prevent inconvenience for you and yet will allow your kids to get only the information that you permit. Of course, if you are going to separate accounts you will want to have your account password protected. You don’t want your children logging in under your account.

Once you have set them up with an account you can restrict their access to websites by going to the Control Panel. Then go into Security, and go to Family Safety. There you can set the account of any of the users and set up the controls. This is a tremendous way for you to keep kids protected.

You can block things that fall into a bulk category and anything that is of a sexually explicit nature. However, if there is a specific site that you want blocked, you can do so by manually requesting it. This is a fully customized option for you to keep your kids safe from inappropriate content on the Internet.
